The liver has an important role in the body's natural defense system, which it converts into our bodies from foreign substances, the body's own hormones, and many of the phenolic compounds in a safe chemical form (detoxification) and renders them harmless (xenobiotics), after which they can be secreted out of the urine and faeces. In order to start up detoxification, some of the nutrients needed. Their inadequate intake leads to increased accumulation of toxins in our bodies, and thus a number of diseases. Toxic substances increase the production of free radicals. These can damage the body, if the body antioxidant stocks are scarce. This situation may lead to various disorders such as hardening of the arteries, allergies, arthritis, neurological diseases, fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue. The increased exposure to toxins may consume the glutathione (one of which is a sulfur-containing amino acid), sulphates, and other important substances required for detoxification. Toxic intermediates formation may lead to chronic fatigue syndrome, sensitization to environmental toxins and certain chronic diseases.
